Lesser known Web Deploy Commands

At my new job, I’ve been using Web Deploy quite often for deploying site packages to multiple servers. Sometimes, we’d just like to update one site in IIS, or all except one. In these cases, the following commands have been invaluable.

Deploy all sites from package except one:

msdeploy.exe -verb:sync -source:package=\serverwebdeploynewbuild.zip,encryptPassword=123456 -dest:webServer -skip:WebSite=notme.example.com

Create a package for just one site from IIS:

msdeploy.exe -verb:sync -source:apphostconfig=”onlyme.example.com” -dest:package=\serverwebdeploynewbuild_onlyme.zip,encryptPassword=123456

Deploy a package from just one site from IIS:

msdeploy.exe -verb:sync -source:package=\serverwebdeploynewbuild_onlyme.zip,encryptPassword=123456 -dest:apphostconfig=”onlyme.example.com”
